The Niederfinow boat lift is no industrial archeology. In operation since 1937, it got recently a bit of an overhaul in order to keep it in good shape. Germans have maintenance in their genes.
In 2014 a bigger, faster and harder lift will be inaugurated. It will not be as poetic and fragile-looking as the steel beauty, it will look somewhat bulkier and building-like. Still, this means that we’re not thinking beauty but function, and that motorways will be less congested thanks to a more efficient boat lift. Here is the project…

What can I say? I will love paying taxes to the German Finance Ministery for financing such things. And happy, not to waste my taxes in paying big salaries to bogus Ponte sullo Stretto managers. I vote with my credit card. This project will further strengthen commercial interchange between Poland and Germany (especially on heavy loads like coal, metals, metal scraps and machinery).
